Lowry Hill resident Rob Brown received a plaque in recognition of his career in the Army at a special Veterans Day Ceremony at The Kenwood Senior Living Community. Mr. Brown doesn’t often talk about his service, but during our Veterans Day program, his eyes really lit up. You could tell the event brought back so many memories for him.
Nancy Eustis has been named “Volunteer of the Year” at a volunteer appreciation social held during National Volunteer Month – April. According to a survey by the Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS), the Minneapolis-St. Paul area ranked first in volunteerism for the entire country. Nancy Eustis is one reason why.

If you can’t find Mahmoud El-Kati in his apartment at the Kenwood Retirement Community, look in the library or the workout room. At age 86, Mahmoud continues to seek, and create knowledge and keep himself physically healthy. He is a long-time activist, teacher, lecturer, writer and commentator on the African American experience. Despite the continuing struggle of our country to face our history of slavery and racism, Mahmoud remains optimistic. He feels that “human beings can change their attitudes.”
